About the Role
Nokia’s Optical Networks division is redefining the connectivity experience by pushing the boundaries of speed, scalability, and intelligence in telecom infrastructure. As a Software Quality Engineer, you’ll play a key role in ensuring that the systems powering next-gen digital experiences are robust, reliable, and future-ready.
This is more than just a QA job it’s a gateway to working on AI-powered, high-performance optical networks that are revolutionizing data centers, cloud computing, and global communication.
Responsibilities
Your day-to-day work will be a mix of innovation, problem-solving, and collaboration. You will:
• Design, develop, and execute manual and automated test plans for optical network planning tools (DWDM, OTN, ROADM, GMPLS).
• Validate the accuracy and performance of software modules used for real-time telecom network simulations.
• Perform functional, regression, integration, and system testing to ensure the tools work in real-world scenarios.
• Simulate network topologies and configurations using domain-specific planning tools.
• Work closely with software developers, product managers, and network engineers to detect and resolve system bugs.
• Use JIRA, Bugzilla, and other bug-tracking tools to manage and report defects.
• Contribute to product enhancement discussions by giving feedback on usability and performance.
• Maintain detailed testing documentation for audit and continuous improvement purposes.
• Participate in sprint planning and retrospectives following Agile methodology.
A Day in the Life at Nokia

Required Skills & Qualifications
Must-Have:
• Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
• 0–2 years of experience in software testing, preferably in telecom, networking, or optical systems.
• Understanding of optical networking concepts:
• DWDM, SDH/SONET, OTN, ROADM
• Ethernet & fiber network topologies
• Familiarity with Layer 0/1/2 concepts, routing principles, and traffic engineering.
• Experience with test case design, execution, and bug reporting tools.
• Basic knowledge of Python, Selenium, or REST API testing is a plus.
Bonus Skills
• Experience in network simulation environments.
• Familiarity with Agile & DevOps practices.
• Hands-on with test management tools like TestRail or Zephyr.
• Knowledge of telecom standards (ITU-T, MEF, IEEE).
• Understanding of KPIs and performance metrics in large-scale network systems.
